The project

They say that the senses allow us to travel. Smells transport us instantly to other places. What we see and touch takes us to other spaces, to other times.

With Selvático, we proved what our senses are capable of, completing a gastronomic offer inspired by the tropics with an interior architecture project that made diners travel to that part of the world without leaving Barcelona.

A JOURNEY THAT STARTS WITH A BLANK PIECE OF PAPER

Raúl, the chef at Selvático, was very clear about what he wanted people to feel in his new restaurant. He knew where he wanted his recipes to take them and asked us to help him make the space accompany users on this fascinating journey.

On the table, this premise and a blank piece of paper on which to design.

Our proposal was a large organic structure located in the centre, which not only distributes the premises, but also generates small enveloping spaces in whose curvatures the tables and their diners are located.

Its irregularity means that each area enjoys a unique and unrepeatable ambience without losing intimacy, thus creating different experiences in each of them. The diameter and orientation of the bench varies according to the area and the number of diners; this means that the effect of seclusion is totally different from one room to another, since in addition to varying the distance between people, the degree of exposure to the public changes between an isolated location with views of the interior and one facing the street.

In addition, the circumferential geometry of the structure provides the client with a 360º panoramic view of the space, which generates greater visual amplitude and, consequently, security. The aim is to ensure comfort in all locations of the restaurant.

To think of the tropics is to think of vegetation, and in our design it plays a leading role. It accompanies the structure, providing warmth, comfort and favouring contact with nature. In addition, it improves the quality of the indoor air and enhances the disconnection of customers throughout their stay.

Nature helps us to create environments in which people feel comfortable and safe, as the brain associates its presence with survival and security, either by the smell of damp earth or the touch of its leaves, elements that we included in our project to generate that feeling.

A JOURNEY IN WHICH THE DINER IS THE PROTAGONIST.

The elements applied in this intervention are simple: a single structure that distributes the entire space, accompanied by vegetation. This generates a chromatic, simple and homogeneous visual play that is left in the background when the action created by the people enters the scene and becomes the protagonist.
